We realize that many of you are moving here from outside Ohio and that selecting a place to live can be a stressful process. One of benefits of attending the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine is the affordability and availability of reasonably priced housing in Cleveland and the surrounding communities. This guide does not encompass all of the resources that are available on the web or in print. Nevertheless, it is a good place start!
Please note that The School of Medicine does not hold agreements or specifically endorse any company or agency listed on this site.
We have posted several resources on this site to help you find housing in the CWRU neighborhood. You may also find the University's Visitors site to be helpful as you begin to plan your move.
Also, as our office receives information about available housing we post it onto your class Facebook page.
Additionally, several years ago our medical students have created a housing survey resource where you can cross reference properties that you may be considering. It's a great way to review their experiences with various property management companies and landlords. There is a collection of nearly 600 entries!

Where do students live?
Where do students live?
Most students live in Little Italy or Cleveland Heights within several neighborhoods, including Coventry, Cedar-Lee, and Cedar-Fairmount. Students find this area attractive because of the close proximity to the University campus, grocery stores, restaurants, and other shops. The Cleveland Heights Housing Office offers a free rental locating service. A list of Cleveland Hts. Properties can be found here.
Many students also find housing in the University Circle area. The Triangle Towers is located adjacent to University Hospitals, The Waldorf Tower, and Kensington Place are within a reasonable distance to the HEC - about 1.5 miles. Also, the new Uptown Development on Euclid Avenue is another option. This development also houses a grocery store, restaurants, bars, and other retailers. Park Lane Villa is another option that is a hotel style rental property located near the medical school.
Other examples of properties within University Circle:
Innova Apartments (across from the Health Education Campus)
Cedar Glen Condominimums (sometimes can also be found on Craigslist)
Some students have chosen to purchase or lease townhomes near the Health Education Campus in a development called Woodhaven/Beacon Place.
Lewis Manor is an example of some apartment complexes in Cleveland Heights.
Parkside Dwellings is located in the center of University Circle that is down the street from the HEC.
A brand new option is One University Circle (but we've heard they are expensive).
Newer options Centric Apartments, Axis at Ansel, The Lumos, & The Artisan (new construction, occupancy date unknown)
Other options in or near University Circle.
Shaker Heights is another suburb that is within a 10-minute drive to campus. The prices of apartments are comparable to those in Cleveland Heights.

VeryApt.com Guide
VeryApt.com Guide
In an effort to assist current and new students in finding quality housing, we have partnered with a new company called VeryApt.com to assemble a housing guide. VeryApt.com is an apartment search startup that is similar to Yelp and TripAdvisor in that they are aggregating unbiased reviews from renters. VeryApt.com is working with the CWRU Law School and have provided similar services to other professional graduate schools at Penn, Michigan, UCLA, Northwestern, and Cornell to name a few.

The unique opportunity for students to participate in experiences at multiple varied affiliate hospital city-wide necessitates that students have available transportation for all four years. Required pre-clinical experiences begin as early as the first months of medical school.

Renters Insurance
Renters Insurance
Renters insurance is for anyone who rents a home, be it a house or an apartment. Renters insurance can protect your personal property against fire, theft and vandalism. Renters insurance doesn't just help provide coverage for everyday necessities like furniture and clothes. It also helps protect theft-prone valuables like your laptop and bike - wherever you take them. It can be acquired by virtually any major insurance company such as AllState, State Farm, Liberty Mutual, Nationwide, American Family, Farmers Insurance, etc. It's TOTALLY WORTH IT!
